Bullet Rani

When the sun refuses to shine for the day and you are stuck inside with nothing much to do, one of your favorite activities itches all over your hands. This was one day where we could barely come out of the house, because it was pouring the whole time! I even remember us playing God of War in his PlayStation for about 3 hours at a stretch! LOL

When it was evening-tea time, we both sort of craved for a nice snack (I blame the weather). I opened the refrigerator and checked what sort of resource were available for instant experiment. I had half packet of sandwich bread, a half capsicum, carrots, french beans and few other things. I took them out and stood there for about few seconds. A recipe instantly hit my head.

So, my youngest co-sister (my husband’s sister-in-law) had a nice veg-bullet recipe. I thought of experimenting with that, by tweaking it a bit.

Here is what we made, and then named it desi for a change – Bullet Rani.

Ingredients:

  1. Potatoes………………………….2
  2. Onions……………………………1/2 cup (finely chopped)
  3. Carrots…………………………..1 large
  4. French Beans………………..5-6
  5. Capsicum………………………1/4th cup (finely chopped)
  6. Green chillies………………..2 long ones (finely chopped)
  7. Sandwich bread……………2-3 (as per your liking)
  8. Corn flour powder……….1 tbspn
  9. Black pepper………………..4-5 crushed
  10. Red chilli powder…………1tspn
  11. Bread crumbs……………….1/2 cup
  12. Oil…………………………………..for deep frying
  13. Salt…………………………………to taste

Method:

  • Boil potatoes, carrots, beans and mash them
  • Cut the sides of the bread to keep it plain
  • Mix 1 tbspn of cornflour with 3 tbspn of water and stir well to avoid lumps
  • Add the chopped capsicum, onion and green chillis with the mashed mixture
  • Damp the breads with the cornflour liquid and then include that as well to the mixture
  • Add the crushed black pepper powder, red chilli powder and salt
  • Mash the entire mixture well enough to form a pasty consistency (along with few chunks here and there)
  • Shape them (however you like) and coat with bread crumbs by gently rolling against the grains
  • Pour oil in the pan and let it heat
  • Once the oil is hot, keep it on medium flame and start deep frying them
  • You can place them on kitchen tissues after draining excess oil to let absorb anything remaining from the bullets
  • Serve them with either tomato ketchup or any dip you like

With tea or just like that, Bullet Rani is the perfect snack to keep you pepped-up during those boring days or moments. Just grab your apron and start making them!
These are like one of those little treats you would love to enjoy with your loved ones or friends.

If you are going to give this a try, I would love to hear back from you! Please feel free to  write to me on the comment section below.
